• 5.0 out of 5 stars from C. B. -- Be careful what you ask for. : Brody, is in the Army an has a year left on his enlistment. As a gay soldier, he faces a bit of harrassment from his CO. He plans on keeping his head down until his enlistment ends. Nick is a friend who is enrolled in school and volunteers at an animal shelter and a human shelter. He's an activist who wants to improve the world. Brody comes up with a scheme to save money during his last year in the military. He and Nick are flirty friends who see the attractiveness in each other. Can they last a year as more than friends? What will the CO say? What happens after the year? Nick drags some heavy baggage that guides his life decisions. There are a few. bolders that are thrown into their plans. Can they overcome the challenges? Nice story. The guys are likeable characters. Nicely done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2021 )

What begins as a marriage of convenience becomes much more, and I really enjoyed the MCs and their sweet, emotional, pretty low-angst story. Add to the story one BFF, a zany Mom, a homophobic Army CO, some personal doubts and insecurities, mix well, and you have a great stand-alone MM romance. By the end I finished her whole first series and then the spin off... now going into her series of male male... AMAZING!!! Brody's father had thrown him out of their house when he came out as gay. Since he couldn't pay for college on his own, Brody joined the military. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Macbandit -- Acting on impulse..... : I don’t know where the author comes up with the ideas for her books but getting together to gain a monthly housing allowance is a very original reason for two to get married. There is so much to this story. Addie who is Brody’s BFF always pushing for the details of Brody’s love life. Brody who doesn’t think things through just acts impulsively. Nick who is an all around nice guy, and Renee, Brody’s mom who really gets him. Put this all together and what a story. This is another book I could not put down. I wanted to yell at Brody and cry for Nick. I love Addie and she is much more than a friend. And who wouldn’t want a parent like Renee. I was surprised at the ending but think it’s a nice touch. I loved that there was no abuse, there was very straight forward talking from family and friends yet there was insecurity of a different type. I guess that's my way of saying there is no whining and moaning.... I love a good M/M book and this was a very good one for me. I can't even tell you how much I love mama Renee. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Kindle Customer -- Finally it's over : Don't get me wrong, the characters are nice, but it was a pretty slow slog with some unnecessary drama thrown in at the end to set up the HEA. I feel like it missed a lot of opportunity too, no conflict between them (other than the last) and very little outside interaction (mostly just them hanging out). I would have liked to see Nick and Brody attend an Army ball, or something where they had to "pretend." Brady's friend Addie was against it at first but came to support him and Nick. The ups and downs in this book were an awesome rollercoaster. As time moves on they develop feelings for each other that turns to love. But what happens when one of them runs scared. I almost cried when my battery died 80% of the way through and raced home to finish. Where I did cry in the end. Wonderfully crafted story and cannot wait to read more from A.D.Ellis. • 4.0 out of 5 stars from witchy tay -- Nick and Brody : I enjoyed the tenderness of this book, though sometimes I wanted to smack the characters silly!!! This story is about how sometimes a bad decision can take you to a good place in life and how to value the things you have. It is not a long book so you can finish it in one afternoon ( maybe a weekend) and relax with it. The first part is kind of slow, but the ending picks up the pace Nd is worth it.
